Repair it.
Keep making
things.

"A sewing machine โ€” vintage or modern โ€” is a tool built for making things. When it stops working, something creative stops with it."

We're tired of a world that treats broken things as disposable. Whether it's a vintage Singer or an entry-level machine from a big box store, if it can be fixed, it's worth fixing. Every machine we repair is one less in a landfill โ€” and one more person who gets to keep sewing.

Resurrection Sewing Co. is a small, independent operation in Ames, Iowa. We work on all machines โ€” from modern computerized to vintage mechanical โ€” and every one that comes through our door gets the same honest care.

Our approach
I
Built to last, worth saving

We're pushing back against throwaway culture one machine at a time. Most machines were designed to be serviced and many can be brought back even after decades of neglect. Before you buy a new one, let us look at your old one.

II
Honest, local, no surprises

We're neighbors in Central Iowa โ€” not a chain, not a franchise. You'll get a straight answer, a clear estimate, and no pressure. If your machine isn't worth the repair cost, we'll say so. If the repair of your machine is beyond what we can do and we think it's best to take it to someone else, we'll say so.

III
Dedicated to the craft

We're active students in the Sewing Doc Academy program because great repair work takes real study. We're in it because we take this seriously โ€” and because your machine deserves someone who does.

Services
& pricing.

If your machine hasn't been serviced in the past year, a full service is almost always the right place to start โ€” it resolves most common issues and gives us a clear picture of anything else going on.

What does that mean?

Let's say you pick up your machine and head home excited to sew โ€” and something isn't quite right. Don't worry. Contact us within 90 days of your service date and we'll make it right at no additional charge. You only pay for any parts that may be needed. That's our promise.

$25 Service Deposit

A $25 deposit is required at the time of booking for all services. This deposit is applied toward your final balance. For repair assessments where we determine the machine cannot be repaired, the deposit is non-refundable โ€” it covers our time evaluating your machine and providing an honest diagnosis. We'll always let you know what we find before any additional work begins.

Group & Classroom Rates

Multiple machines, one visit. We travel to schools, guilds, and retreats โ€” ask about group pricing.

Additional & Repair Services
For repairs, we charge an hourly rate of $50 + cost of parts. We bill for actual time spent on your machine โ€” not rounded to the nearest hour or inflated increments. We always provide an estimate before proceeding with any additional work.
Deep Clean โ€” click here to learn more โ†’
An additional fee that may apply to machines with heavy buildup of old oil, grease, lint, surface rust, or debris from years of use or improper storage. Not applicable to seized or non-running machines โ€” deep cleaning is already included in Functional Restoration pricing. If your machine needs this, we'll contact you to discuss before any work begins.

Sewing Doc Academy
Apprentice.

We're active students in the Sewing Doc Academy program โ€” a rigorous, hands-on curriculum led by Andi Barney that covers everything from basic servicing to repairs on both Vintage and more Modern machines. We're in it because we take this seriously, not because we needed a certificate.
